Football Development Centre
Bournville College runs a Football Development Centre which is open to any student enrolled on a course at Bournville College. The centre is run by Football Development Co-ordinator Kevin Redmond, a UEFA B football Coach who operates his own sports coaching company away from college life.
The overall aim of the Development Centre is to work on individual technique, skills, speed, and co-ordination progressing finally onto team play. The Development Centre is designed to enhance the students’ natural ability whilst working to a technical programme. Throughout the year the students will cover all aspects of the game as well as having the opportunity to play against other players by representing the college in the British Colleges Sports West Midlands league.
Training sessions take place twice a week on the astro pitch at Colmers Farm School, with league matches being played on Wednesday afternoons, where all home fixtures are played at Northfield Town Football Club.
For any students who show potential, we provide opportunities to trial for the West Midlands College football team, and a chance to take your FA level 1 and 2 coaching qualifications. Whether you excel in a playing or coaching role we can help you to develop these skills, providing you with the expertise and knowledge to be able to further your career in the sport. One of the opportunities offered to students on the course is the chance to coach abroad through the company Challenger, who pay qualified coaches to live and coach in the USA
Female Football
Bournville College invites all female footballers to be a part of the above training programme, however, we also provide female only sessions to focus on individual and team development to prepare for small and full sided fixtures. Contact Kevin Redmond for details and also check enrichment timetable for further training times.
