Counselling

Sometimes life as a student can be stressful; situations at college or outside can affect your ability to study effectively. It is at those times when it can help to talk to someone about what is happening and the effect it is having on you. The College Counselling Service provides qualified Counsellors who can provide you with the opportunity to talk about the situation. The Counselling Service can be used to talk about any situation that is causing emotional or psychological difficulty.

What is Counselling
Counselling is the opportunity for you to talk about problems or worries that are affecting your life. Sometimes you may feel distressed by situations or people in your life. Or perhaps you feel dissatisfied with life and have lost your sense of direction or purpose. All these things can affect your studies and it may help to talk to a Counsellor. During your time with the Counsellor you can explore the situation and your feelings about what has happened. Then you can find your own way of coping with the difficulties or problems. The sessions are private and you will be treated with respect.

Confidentiality
This is an important part of providing a service and the information you tell us is confidential expect in exceptional circumstances. The confidentiality boundaries will be explained to you at the first meeting you have with the counsellor.

Accessing the Service
The service is available to all students of Bournville College whether you are studying on campus or in the workplace. The college offers an appointment system but it may sometimes be possible to see a counsellor straight away or later the same day.
