I have been studying at Bournville College for four years. I came in at introductory level and have progressed to level three. I dreamed of going to university for years and now it is finally happening. Although I have a physical disability, with the support from the College’s Assessment and Support Team, I have been able to achieve my goal. The Team is one of the best I have worked with and the tutors have always treated me the same as everyone else. Nothing has been a problem for the staff at Bournville. It is the best learning environment I have been in.  My confidence has increased over the last four years and I can now handle situations which I would have found difficult in the past. I am looking forward to the next challenge to see what higher education brings.

I have been a student at Bournville College since 2004. I started on a Career and Personal Development course and progressed onto Skills for Working Life. As a wheelchair user with cerebral palsy and dystonia my support needs are varied. I now use an electronic communication device, a Dynavox, to help me communicate in class. I use my Dynavox to do much of my work and my support worker enables me to fully participate in all class activities. I also receive help at break times if I need it. The college provided me with specialist IT equipment and supported me at a challenging time when I lost my speech. When I leave the College I would like to work as an advocate for assisted communication with Access to Communication and Technology. The support team at Bournville College have always been approachable and helpful, so if you feel you need extra help then go and ask. I did and it worked for me!

They have eased my passage at the College to make it a rewarding experience. I have progressed with my qualifications to gain voluntary work. I am now putting into practice what I have learned. Bournville College is very flexible and offers a wide range of courses to suit students’ needs.  It gave me the choice of studying my most preferred subjects.
