Horticulture and Floristry

Floristry & Horticulture.jpgThe land based industry is diverse and offers a wide range of creative and stimulating jobs. At Bournville this encompasses anything from landscape gardening and environmental conservation to professional floristry and floral design skills.

You will be taught through a range of methods including lectures, demonstrations and practical sessions. Bournville College, through developed partnerships, offers students a wealth of opportunities to gain real ‘hands on’ experience.  Practical sessions are delivered in our own workshops, landscaped grounds, glasshouses and in Kings Heath Park, depending on your course. Students go on numerous trips to botanical gardens, parks, forests, spring florist event, Society of Floristry road show and more.

Our floristry students gain work experience in local florist shops, undertake regular commercial requests from clients and put on displays for holidays and special occasions such as Valentine’s Day and Mothering Sunday. Last year, they had an opportunity to visit Holland and observe auction houses and the contemporary skills of the Dutch Masters.
