Bournville College was shortlisted for the Inaugural Birmingham Post CSR Awards this week.
In a competition open to organisations throughout Birmingham, Bournville College was one of only eight to make it to the final round, along with companies like Goodyear Dunlop Tyres, Midcounties Co-Operative and Pinsent Masons Solicitors. Cadbury was the overall winner.

The definition of corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a loose one but at the heart of it is the idea that wider public interest is deliberately considered in the corporate decision-making process, something that Bournville College proved quite easily.
The judges commented: ‘The College appears to be a buzz of ethically responsible activities, empowering their students and staff to support the local community’
‘The College’s location, both in terms of geography and perception, is right in the middle of the lives of thousands of people in south Birmingham through the work it does over and beyond its primary educational function’.
The initiatives that impressed them included helping re-train and re-skill over 3.000 ex-Rover staff and the more recent work with Tesco and Cadbury and long-term unemployed people. Own initiatives from students and staff did not go unnoticed, including the work of Prince’s Trust volunteers, Art & Design students, charity raising via the Students’ Activities team and more. Well done to all staff and students, this award is in recognition of your hard work.
