Ben Pyne from Moseley has reached new heights since completing a marketing qualification at Bournville College.
Ben relocated to Birmingham from Cumbria six years ago when he became a Sales Representative for his former employer ABB, a global leader in power and automation technologies. Ben’s job involved some marketing responsibilities and therefore in 2008 he decided to top up his skills at Bournville College and learn more about the theory and practices of marketing. While on the CIM Professional Certificate in Marketing he was head hunted by a Dutch company to become their UK Sales Manager – an offer which he couldn’t refuse.
One year later, Ben’s skills were in demand again. His previous client approached him to join his company AM Sensors Ltd, specialising in the manufacture of instrumentation products and providing engineering services for Nuclear Power, Oil & Gas and other industries such as the Rail sector. Ben was ready for a new challenge and so he accepted a position as Sales and Marketing Manager. Ben said: ‘My new employer has given me the opportunity to really get creative and apply my marketing skills. I’ve done several marketing campaigns in the last few months which have been very successful. I’ve certainly had the chance to put what Bournville taught me into practice – all aspects of it.’
Ben’s next challenge will be to tackle international markets. ‘We are now beginning to export our products internationally, so I wish I’d chosen the international marketing task as part of my assignment on the course. Maybe next time - I do plan on coming back, added Ben.
Ben reflected: ‘Without doing the course, I wouldn’t be able to do the job I’m doing now. I now realise that I already had marketing experience before but the course enabled me to understand the theory. Bournville was great and I would recommend it to anyone. They were really flexible and understood that adult learners have many other commitments outside the classroom. The course enabled me to further my career as well as grow in confidence.’
