Student Support

studentsupport

We have a wide range of facilities and services designed to support you while you’re learning. For students who start in September, we hold an introductory evening so you can get to know other higher level students across the subject areas as well as meet tutors and advisors from careers, counselling, welfare and learning resource centres.

Learning Resources

We are members of several JISC repository groups, which means that we share access to a very wide range of learning materials designed by our Higher Education and Further Education partners. In addition to having access to web-based course materials and emails, all Higher Education students can make use of the HE forum on our intranet site, designed to support all HE students. We also have an arrangement with the University of Birmingham Orchard Learning Resources Centre so that you can access a wider range of up to date academic resources, particularly electronic journals and articles on your chosen subject.

Careers

The College has its own Careers Service staffed by experienced professionals who you can turn to for advice and help with your career. You’re also welcome to use our careers resources room, holding a wide range of careers information.

Counselling

We understand that juggling domestic commitments, work and higher education, can become stressful at times. Sometimes, personal, social or academic concerns may be hampering you achieving your full potential and it is at those times when the counselling service may be able to help. The service is staffed by a professionally trained counsellor who will offer you the time and support you may need to explore any concerns.

Financial Support & Welfare

As a higher education student, you may be entitled to various grants, bursaries or loans that are on offer. To find out more, click here.  The welfare service at the College can also help by giving advice and information about a range of issues that are relevant to students in higher education.
