Access to Higher Education Courses Access to Higher Education courses are specifically designed for mature students who want to go to university, but lack any formal qualifications. Access to University courses are the most popular courses at Bournville College. The qualifications awarded are accepted for entry on to degree courses by the majority of UK universities and colleges. Higher National Diplomas (HNDs) HNDs are widely recognised qualifications. They provide a good mixture of academic theory with practical, work-based knowledge and skills. HNDs are full time courses, lasting two years. Foundation Degrees Foundation Degrees are practical, vocational and work based programmes, designed to give you the skills and knowledge to perform your job role at the highest level. They have been developed in partnership with employers and professional bodies to ensure that they meet the needs of your own work environment. Foundation Degrees can be studied full time or part time and take between two and three years to complete, with the option to progress to the final year of a BA / BSc degree on successful completion. Professional Qualifications Professional Qualifications are study programmes that are recognised by professional bodies in fields such as Accounting, Management, Marketing, Human Resources and Teaching. These courses often give you ‘Chartered’ Practitioner status and are often required in the above professions for career progression. Some courses enable you to progress onto higher level academic programmes at local universities and some allow you exemptions from parts of additional professional requirements. |
