What do you think of global warming? Science or Fiction

Wednesday, July 01, 2009 by mtt admin

Global warming is a subject that splits opinion. Just a quick look at the top 10 Digg articles on the subject shows stories claiming it to be the worst thing ever, a government conspiracy, a natural heat cycle and sustainable as it increases the growth rate of plants and algae.

What do you think? None of us are geologists here (unless you are one) so give us your honest opinion, safe in the knowledge that no one else knows any better. Do you think it is going to destroy the planet, or is it just scare mongering, or will nature adapt?

The only fact is CO2 in the atmosphere has gone up because of power stations, emissions etc. Everything else is educated conjecture. Temperatures have risen on this scale in the past due to natural causes and disasters of all kinds have blighted the course of animal life over the millions of years the earth has existed.

To put my hat in, I think the science stands up. I think we should do all we can to keep the temperature stable, although I think we are limited to how much we can help.

But as a hard and fast Darwinist, I feel global warming is another hurdle for nature to jump, like the ice age, meteors etc. Natural selection will ensure animals will live on and start a new chapter in intelligent life on earth.

Sure we have a bit more control over this one, but we are our nature and our actions are dictated by nature. We are out of the animal kingdom and have used our superior intellect to conquer nature to some extent, but we are still flesh and blood and we are still driven by desires hard wired over millions of years of natural selection.

We are nature and human created global warming is just as natural as a meteorite in my book. Maybe I’m wrong, I probably am, I usually am, but I love hearing opinion debate, so please get in touch.

To learn about environmental conservation, have a look at this.
