The Training Package
Twelve apprentices have recently started the 10 weeks long Apprenticeship in Railway Engineering (Level 2) by the end of which they will have learnt how to perform a range of railway track building and maintenance related activities. The training enables them to train in a realistic working environment at Tyseley Locomotive Works – the engineering subsidiary of the Birmingham Railway Museum Trust but also helps this registered educational charity with their own railway track maintenance.
Business / Personal Improvement
‘Ever since leaving school a few years ago, I felt that I wanted to do something different. When I came across this apprenticeship, I immediately thought that it was a great opportunity. On completion of the apprenticeship, I’ll be able to start planning my career path and over a period of time specialise in a particular area of railway engineering. There are over hundred different jobs that I can specialise in – the possibilities are endless despite the railway engineering being a male dominated sector.’
Sarah Benson, Railway Engineering Apprentice
‘I’ve always liked engineering and practical work which led me to a decision to train on a job. When I saw an advert for this apprenticeship I knew it would be for me. I’d definitely recommend it because if you put in the effort, it can lead to a variety of well-paid jobs’
Lewis Cox, Railway Engineering Apprentice
