Tesco

Training
Six weeks long bespoke training delivered to future employees of two new Tesco stores in Birmingham.

Number of Employees Trained
The programme saw two cohorts of trainees; 200 people in total.

The Company’s Line of Business
Tesco was established in 1919. Today, Tesco operates over 4,800 stores worldwide, including USA, Turkey, Ireland, Thailand, Japan and many more.

The Training Package
The training combined modules related to customer service, manual handing, problem solving, equality and diversity, health and safety and IT skills. The initiative which was partly funded by the West Midlands Leaders Board’s Regional Social Fund (ESF) has made a difference to many formerly unemployed residents of Birmingham.

Business / Personal Improvement
‘It has been a pleasure to work closely with the partnership team at Bournville College, resulting in successful employment of many people in areas of high unemployment.’
Emma L. Grant, Store Manager at Tesco Hodge Hill

‘I had to leave my former job due to a hand injury which made me unemployed for several months. The training delivered by Bournville College was very practical and relevant to our roles. I didn’t think I would stand a chance, especially when my previous job hunting efforts came to nothing. Now I have a job I love.’
Robbie McMorrine, Cold Meat Counter Assistant, Tesco Hodge Hill
