Number of Trainees
The training enabled 95 formerly unemployed and recently made redundant people to gain a fast track training towards employment at Cadbury.
The Company’s Line of Business
Cadbury’s chocolate business was founded in 1801. Its current company site in Bournville was founded by George Cadbury who also opened works committees for both man and women and set up education facilities. Over the years, the company’s been going from strength to strength, building up the business to become a well recognised global brand.
The Training Package
The eight week training programme consisted of a variety of workshops designed to prepare candidates for working in the production and manufacturing sector. Workshops delivered by Bournville College included problem solving, team building, basic manufacturing and communication skills. Candidates also got a chance to participate in physical training delivered by LA Fitness designed to help them prepare for coping with manual work. The training was partly funded by the West Midland Local Government Association’s European Social Fund (ESF) programme as part of the wider Skills for Jobs programme.
Business / Personal Improvement
‘The trainees were introduced to a whole range of modern manufacturing techniques, including quality management, problem solving and team working as well as the ability to carry out basic machine maintenance tasks. Trainees also gained Certificate in Health and Nutrition, Food Hygiene and Manual Handling. At the end of the course, trainees were coached in applying for jobs, CV writing and interview skills.’
Dave Nelson, HR Manager, Cadbury
‘I worked for over 20 years for MG Rover in Longbridge until its collapse in 2005. Since then, I struggled to find permanent employment and job hunting got even worse with the arrival of the recession. When I was given an oportunity to apply for Cadbury pre-employment training the cloud has lifted. Bournville College has been very supportive and tutors were excellent; everybody enjoyed working with them. I’m pleased to be employed again.’
