The company line of business:
The Accord Group’s services range from providing affordable homes to residential care for older people, with many other services in between. Over the last 10 years the organisation has grown substantially but has still managed to retain the ethos of localness, community and working in partnership and is one of the leading associations working in the central England region.
The Training Package:
Bournville College worked in conjunction with Accord Housing to offer the apprenticeship in Housing.
Business/Personal Improvement:
‘In 2009 we pledged our commitment to help young people into work through our worklessness agenda and the creation of apprenticeships vacancies. The apprenticeship scheme has worked well for us and we have been encouraged to take on a number of different apprentices in areas such as Housing, Health & Social Care and Gardening. Our partnership with Bournville College is working out really well and I would recommend the College as an apprenticeship partner to other organisations too.’
Saima Yaqub, Group Learning and Development Adviser
‘I am really enjoying the apprenticeship; I enjoy the engagement, liaising with the team and the whole working experience at Accord. I would certainly recommend the apprenticeship scheme to others – jobs are in short supply, university is out of reach for some and apprenticeships are a very strong alternative. I have received very good support on every level – the assessor comes out to me at work, Bournville College supports me on every level of the course and there is always someone to talk to within the Accord Group too. I am glad I chose the apprenticeship as it opens a lot of doors to progress into other roles within the company’.
