Mathematics for Numeracy Teaching runs for 20 Weeks, 3 hours per week
Introduction
Mathematics for Numeracy Teaching is aimed at teachers who would like to develop their maths skills to help with teaching. This qualification provides you with knowledge and skills to teach and embed Functional Skills Maths and Numeracy, as well as support students with needs in these areas.
Mathematics for Numeracy Teaching is taught at our Longbridge campus based near Birmingham. The campus has great transport links with; Birmingham, Sutton Coldfield, Solihull, Warwick, Redditch and other surrounding areas.
Content
You will explore maths knowledge and skills in the following areas for your own personal development and for your teaching:
- Using maths: academic subjects
- Using maths: professional and vocational contexts
- Using maths: public and personal life
Teaching Methods
As a learner on this programme you will encounter a number of different learning strategies including:
- pair and small group work
- whole group work
- presentations
- individual and group research projects
- case studies
- e-learning
- one-to-one tutorial
Assessment
There are three assignments: one mandatory unit and two chosen from optional units. There are NO observations of your teaching practice.
Qualification Gained
Level 3 Award in Mathematics for Numeracy Teaching.
Opportunities for Progression
You could progress onto a teaching qualification (PTLLS, CTLLS, DTLLS) or, if you have DTLLS (or equivalent), progress onto Level 5 Diploma Teaching Mathematics: Numeracy.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements, however, it is advisable to have numeracy skills at level 2 e.g. Maths GCSE A*-C or Numeracy Level 2.
