Multi Sports Coaching – Level 2 Award

Duration

The Multi Sports Coaching programme is a one-year full time programme, up to 5 days per week.

Introduction

The Multi Sports Coaching programme is a qualification to assess the skills and knowledge you need to perform in your job role. This programme is suited to individuals who are interested in coaching a variety of sports sessions and wish to become a sports coach.

Multi Sports Coaching is taught from our Longbridge campus, which is ideally located with transport routes from Birmingham, Solihull, Sutton Coldfield, Warwick and other surrounding areas.

FACILITIES

Theory lessons will be held at Bournville College and some practical sessions in the college sports hall/Urban Fitness gym and Colmers Leisure Centre.

You are expected to use the gym and participate in practical sport sessions outside of your college hours. This will be monitored as it is a requirement to pass the course.

SPORTS DEVELOPMENT SCHEMES

In addition to the course we also offer Football, Netball, Basketball, Cricket and Rugby Development Schemes. The purpose is to offer both boys and girls the chance to develop their skills and knowledge. This is very demanding in addition to your working week. It involves up to 8 hours of coaching/training per week plus games against other local colleges. You will also have the opportunity to gain a number of level coaching qualifications.

We offer a great deal on kit for the players who get through the trials and pre-season training starting in August.

Functional Skills

Functional Skills are a compulsory part of all Sixth Form Centre courses.  Students set targets to improve their skills and gain qualifications, in English, Maths and/or IT. The Functional Skills and levels taken are based on initial assessment and previous GCSE results.  There is a particular emphasis on skills required for Sport. Students build up a folder of evidence from their vocational work and may be required to sit one or more tests.

Teaching Methods

Students develop their skills through practical sessions, group and personal tutorials.

The course consists of lessons that are 60% practical and 40% theory in nature. Practical lessons will consist of role plays, preparation for assessment by practicing coaching; relating theory to practice by using specific exercise equipment and experiencing varied exercises through independent tasks set. Theory lessons will consist of the theory listed under ‘content’ above.

Assessment

Students will be continually assessed throughout the year by practical observations, completing worksheets and producing written reports, whilst portfolio building.

You will be assessed against criteria and rewarded either pass or fail.

Qualification Gained

On successful completion of the programme students will be awarded the Level 2 Award in Multi Sports Coaching which includes the opportunity to gain coaching qualifications listed below:

  • Level 1 Award in Coaching Football
  • Level 1 Award in Coaching Badminton
  • Level 1 Award in Coaching Basketball
  • Level 1 Award in Netball

This is a pass or fail qualification.

Opportunities for Progression

Students who complete the programme will be able to apply for coaching jobs.

Following successful completion of this Level 2 qualification you will be able to apply for employment or progress onto level 3 qualifications in similar subjects.

Entry Requirements

  • It is recommended that you have GCSE English at grade C or above
  • Two GCSEs grade C or above in academic subjects, appropriate work experience or a Merit/Distinction on a Level 2 Diploma
  • Have a passion for sport, exercise and fitness
