Employability and Personal Development – Level 1 Preparation 4 Work City & Guilds Certificate
Duration
This is a 32 week full time course.
Introduction
The Employability and Personal Development programme provides a step in the right direction for those who want to develop personal skills, develop career progression and increase employability.
Employability and Personal Development is taught from our campus in Longbridge, which is easily accessible by several key transport routes, including; Birmingham, Coventry, Warwick, Sutton Coldfield, Stratford Upon Avon and Solihull.
Content
Employability and Personal Development focuses on the skills you need to enter employment or progress onto further education courses. You will have the opportunity to develop your English and maths as well as working on your teambuilding and confidence skills. You will also enrol on a vocational option either in Electrics, Hair/Beauty, Childcare/Health & Social Care or Catering.
Functional Skills
Functional Skills are a compulsory part of all Sixth Form Centre courses. Students set targets to improve their skills and gain qualifications, in English, Maths and/or IT. The Functional Skills and levels taken are based on initial assessment and previous GCSE results. There is a particular emphasis on skills required for Employability and Personal Development. Students build up a folder of evidence from their vocational work and may be required to sit one or more tests.
Teaching Methods
Individual learning styles are established during induction. These learning needs are taken into consideration when teaching is planned. In addition a variety of teaching methods are used including outdoor learning activities, community visits and practical work to engage students in the learning process.
Assessment
Assessment is carried out through external verification of portfolio work for all the City & Guilds and BTEC vocational options. English and maths is assessed via a formal written exam. Regular feedback will be provided by an allocated personal tutor. Regular one to one reviews with the personal tutor takes place to discuss progress, set targets and recognise achievements.

Opportunities for Progression
Students may progress onto college courses, apprenticeships or employment.
