Personal & Social Development BTEC – Introduction to Preparation 4 Work Entry Level Certificate
Duration
This is a 32 week full time course.
Introduction
The Personal & Social Development BTEC- entry level course will introduce you to the world of work and study. You will get the opportunity to learn new skills suited for further study and gaining work. You will also get the opportunity to develop your skills in Electrics, Hair/Beauty, Childcare/Health & Social Care or Catering as well as English and maths.
The Personal & Social Development BTEC is taught from our Longbridge campus, which is based in the heart of the Midlands.
Content
The Personal & Social Development BTEC course will focus on the skills needed for work and study. You will have the opportunity to develop a range of practical, personal and social skills. The programme includes career planning, career progression, self-assessment and communication skills as there is a particular emphasis on skills required for Work or Study.
Functional Skills
Functional Skills are a compulsory part of all Sixth Form Centre courses. Students set targets to improve their skills and gain qualifications, in English, Maths and/or IT. The Functional Skills and levels taken are based on initial assessment and previous GCSE results. There is a particular emphasis on skills required for Personal & Social Development. Students build up a folder of evidence from their vocational work and may be required to sit one or more tests.
Teaching Methods
You will learn through completing tasks set by your tutor, projects and practical work. You will also have the opportunity to set targets to improve your skills throughout the programme.
Assessment
You will build a portfolio of work which will be marked against the qualification criteria. You will be marked on how you have used your skills to complete tasks and activities set by your tutor.
To pass your functional skills you will have to sit a timed assessment.

Opportunities for Progression
Studying Personal & Social Development BTEC will give you the opportunity to progress onto other programmes or training. It will also provide you with a range of skills to gain employment.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this course. You will be assessed for English and maths and during enrolment to ensure you are on a course that meets your learning needs.
