Introduction
Bournville College has a strong reputation in offering English courses for international students full-time and part-time. We welcome students from all parts of the world. They come from a variety of backgrounds including students, academics, professionals, business people and other workers, visitors, dependants of people working or staying in the UK and au pairs.
Our team is very experienced, friendly and understanding. The course will help students progress from any level towards a target level of IELTS or a Cambridge University qualification.
The course includes exams in Speaking & Listening, Reading and Writing and leads to an internationally recognised qualification at the end of the course.
Content
All of our courses offer a balance of language skills, grammar and vocabulary. Everyone takes an entry test and then joins a group appropriate to their current level in one of these programmes. The programme prepares you for an internationally recognised examination at your level.
In addition to this, you will take modules which give more practice or specialised study in subjects relating to English, for example:
- Preparation for IELTS
- English for business
- IT skills
- Academic writing and presentation skills
Teaching Methods
Classes are taught wholly in English. A wide range of teaching methods are used. These may include such approaches as role play, presentations and task-based learning. Modern smartboard and interactive technology is widely used in the classroom.
Assessment
You will work towards completing an Individual Learning Plan, setting goals for your learning with help and advice from your tutor, and these goals will be reviewed throughout the course. Other forms of assessment will also take place, to help both students and teachers monitor progress.
Qualification Gained
The IELTS test will be arranged for students at a nearby testing centre and this will normally be arranged at the end of each semester (end of January and June). Individual students can make their own arrangements to take the IELTS test outside of these dates if they so wish. The Cambridge suite of exams KET, PET and FCE will also be available as Bournville College is a testing centre for these exams.
Opportunities for Progression
A wide range of courses in all subject areas are available across the college. Entry requirements to these courses vary.
Entry Requirements
Appropriate visa requirement and level of English according to the UK Border Agency.
