Law and Practice Diploma – CILEX Level 3 Professional Diploma

Duration

The Law and Practice Diploma is delivered for one evening per week (6-9pm) over two academic years.

Introduction

Law and Practice Diploma - CILEX Level 3 Professional Diploma:

The Chartered Institute of Legal Executives is the professional body which represents 22,000 trainee and practising Chartered Legal Executives. Its role is to enhance the position and standing of Chartered Legal Executive lawyers in the legal profession and to offer access to a flexible career in law. It works closely with Government and the Ministry of Justice and is recognised in England and Wales as one of the three core approved regulators of the legal profession alongside barristers and solicitors.

The CILEx Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law and Practice is a broad-based, practical introduction to Law and Legal Practice. The course has been developed to facilitate students taking a flexible approach to learning through studying on a unitised basis.

The Law and Practice Diploma is taught from our Longbridge campus, which is ideally located with transport routes from Birmingham, Solihull, Sutton Coldfield, Warwick and other surrounding areas.

Content

Students are required to achieve across key areas of Law and Legal Practice including Contract Law, Criminal Law, Land Law and Law of Tort.

A practical legal skills component is included via two Professional Skills units in Client Care and Legal Research enabling key transferable legal skills to be developed.

The mandatory inclusion of these units in the Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law and Practice ensures that the qualification both reflects the pace of change in the legal sector and that ILEX students are well-prepared to embrace this change.

The qualification consists of ten units in total which are each assessed by CILEx and accumulated by the student. Each unit is regarded as a worthwhile achievement in its own right and certification is available at unit level.

Teaching Methods

Teaching will be on site using a mixture of tutor led sessions incorporating group and individual work, case studies and interactive methods.

Assessment

Assessment methods include multiple choice questions, skills based tasks and closed book examinations, some on pre-released case studies.

Qualification Gained

Upon successful completion of the course the student will receive the designation A.Inst. L.Ex.

Opportunities for Progression

Level 3 Diploma holders can progress onto the Level 6 Professional Higher Diploma in Law and Practice.

There are no formal entry requirements for the qualification. However, the qualification is at Level 3 of the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF), and CILEx does recommend that students embarking on a programme of study towards either qualification have a minimum of four GCSEs at grades C or above (including English Language or Literature) or equivalent qualifications.
