Enjoy Wines of the World

Duration

Two hours a week on Wednesday evenings from 19.00 – 21.00 hrs. You may choose to enrol for the whole programme or for individual courses as identified below.

Course 1 - Weeks 1-3 Wines of France (22.2.12 – 7.3.12)
Course 2 - Weeks 4-6 Wines of Italy, Spain and wider Europe (14.3.12 – 28.3.12)
Course 3 - Weeks 7-9 Wines of the New World (25.4.12 - 9.5.12)

Introduction

These three courses have been designed to introduce you to a range of wines from across the World in the relaxed environment of our fabulous New Restaurant “Urban Flavours” at Bournville College.  Our enthusiastic team will lead you on a journey of wine tasting from many of the most sought after wine producing regions of the world in a friendly and informal style. You will enjoy a selection of wines from Europe to the New World and begin to develop a taste for how they complement various different cuisines.  You will become more confident with your wine selections when shopping, eating out or entertaining your friends. There will be easy to follow wine tasting techniques and notes to enhance your experience.

Content

You will start your journey in France where you will sample the wines of Bordeaux, Burgundy and the Alsace, Rhone and Loire Valley.

You may then continue to develop your taste by sampling the wines of Italy, Spain and wider Europe.

Finally you will develop a taste for wines of the New World.

The sessions will include a brief history of the wines with tasting techniques to develop an appreciation of the differing styles of wine and grape varieties grown in the various regions.

Please be aware that because of the nature of the course, you will be sampling alcohol during the sessions and this should be considered if driving.

Teaching Methods

Small group teaching, presentation talks & discussions and sampling.

Assessment

There is no formal assessment on this course.

Qualification Gained

These courses are recreational and do not lead to any formal qualification.

There is a wide range of industry accredited qualifications to choose from, depending on your interest. Please enquire for further details.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements, although you should have a keen interest in wine.

COSTS

Each course costs £60. You will receive a £20 discount off the total price if you enrol on all 3 courses. In addition, everyone enrolling will receive a 20% voucher towards an evening meal in the restaurant (1 voucher per course).

ADDITIONAL LEARNING SUPPORT

If you feel that you may require additional learning support during your studies please ensure that you discuss this at enrolment. Due to funding restrictions and depending on the nature of the support you require, you may have to meet the costs of additional support. The Assessment & Support team can meet with you to discuss your individual circumstances, assist you to identify support required and provide you with a quote. You can contact the Assessment and Support Manager for further details.
