BTEC Level 1 Diploma in Art & Design

Duration

This is a full time course lasting until July.

Introduction

This level one course allows you to develop your artistic skills and enables you to build a portfolio of your own art work. It gives you the opportunity to work with a range of materials to produce art in your own style.

Content

This course will focus on developing your artistic skills through a range of projects using a range of different media. You will be encouraged to develop your own style while producing individual pieces of work. You will also have an opportunity to work with others on larger pieces of work and develop your research skills whilst learning about famous artists.

You will work with specialist equipment in a dedicated art room. You will be taught by experienced artists and have the opportunity to visit galleries and exhibitions.

As part of a foundation learning programme you will also have to work towards your functional skills and a Personal Development qualification. These will be embedded within your art sessions and will have a focus on developing your functional and social skills as well as your artistic talents.

All elements of the course are mandatory. You will be expected to participate in all elements including functional skills.

Functional Skills

Functional Skills are a compulsory part of all Sixth Form Centre courses. Students set targets to improve their skills, and gain qualifications, in English and Maths. The Functional Skills levels taken are based on initial assessments.

Teaching Methods

You will learn through completing projects and tasks set by your tutor. You will also have the opportunity to learn from other artists and each other and take part in trips to galleries and exhibitions.

Assessment

You will build a portfolio of art work which will be marked against the qualification criteria. You will be marked on how you have used your skills to produce your works of art.

To pass your functional skills you will have to sit a timed assessment.
