IT BTEC Level 2 Diploma (Computer Technicians)

Duration

The IT BTEC is a one-year full-time programme, 13.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Introduction

The IT BTEC is designed to provide a good grounding in the skills needed for those students who wish to specialise in becoming a computer technician.

IT BTEC is taught from our campus in Longbridge. Due to the location of the campus the college can boast strong transport links with; Birmingham, Sutton Coldfield, Solihull, Erdington and other surrounding areas.

IT Fault Diagnosis and Remedy

Functional Skills

Functional Skills are a compulsory part of all Sixth Form Centre courses.  Students set targets to improve their skills and gain qualifications, in English, Maths and/or IT. The Functional Skills and levels taken are based on initial assessment and previous GCSE results.  There is a particular emphasis on skills required for a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in IT. Students build up a folder of evidence from their vocational work and may be required to sit one or more tests.

Assessment

All work will be internally assessed through a portfolio of evidence which you will produce throughout the course.  Work will also be sampled by the awarding body.

Qualification Gained

On successful completion of the programme, you will gain the BTEC Level 2 Diploma in IT, which is equivalent to 4 GCSEs at grades A*-C.

Opportunities for Progression

Successful completion will allow you to move on to a level three qualification, or consider employment in areas involving the use of IT.

Entry Requirements

Students will be considered depending upon qualifications, experience and interview.  You should have one of the following:

  • a BTEC Level 1 Diploma in IT plus at least GCSE maths and English at grade D or above/Level 2 Key Skill equivalent
  • four GCSEs at grade D and above, including Maths and English
  • other related level 1 or level 2 qualifications

All students will also be required to attend and satisfactorily complete a formal induction period.
