Duration
BSc Creative Computing is a 3 years full time course.
Introduction
BSc Creative Computing aims to give you a wide appreciation of the subject, rather than just an understanding of existing commercial approaches, so that your knowledge can evolve and adapt to meet contemporary needs. You will develop skills in:
- various aspects of programming
- computer systems development and project management
- design of database management systems, e-commerce, computer security and information systems management
This degree is for you if you want to learn how to develop systems that can grow to meet new and changing needs in modern business environments and in arts, media and cultural applications. It also provides a route to a variety of higher degrees in the computing and information systems sector.
BSc Creative Computing is taught at our state-of-the-art campus in Longbridge. Due to the location of the campus the College has strong transport links with, Birmingham, Solihull, Sutton Coldfield, Warwick, Coventry and other surrounding areas.
Content
The degree consists of 12 modules over 3 years.
Modules to be covered in first year BSc Creative Computing
- Mathematics for computing
- Introduction to Java and object-oriented programming
- Introduction to computing and the Internet
- Creative Computing 1: image, sound, motion

- Graphical object-oriented and internet programming in Java

Teaching Methods
Class based learning, tutorials, workshops and seminars.
Additionally:
- Online resources including examiners' reports and past exam papers, the student handbook, regulations, course information sheets, reading lists, a ‘news and notices’ section. It also contains the first four chapters of subject guides for most courses. On registering you will also gain access to the Virtual Learning Environment.
- Online Library giving access to Justis.com, JSTOR, ABI/INFORM, Academic Search Premier and Business Source Premier.
Assessment
Each unit is assessed by unseen written examination and coursework. A project must also be taken to complete the BSc degree.
Qualification Gained
BSc Creative Computing
Classification: Undergraduate degrees are awarded with First Class Honours, Upper Second Class Honours, Lower Second Class Honours or Third Class Honours. If you do not qualify for Honours, you may be awarded a Pass classification.
Opportunities for Progression
The programme has been developed by academics within the Department of Computing at Goldsmiths. The Department is a leading centre in the UK for the study of Arts and Music Computing, Cognitive Computing and Artificial Intelligence, and Computer Science. Academic staff are leaders and partners on a variety of research projects. This degree will prepare you for a variety of careers, including Systems Analyst, Systems Designer, Application Programmer and IT Consultant.
Entry Requirements
You will require either:
Two subjects at GCE ‘A’ level, plus at least three further subjects at GCSE / GCE ‘O’ level at Grade C or above or three subjects at GCE ‘A’ level (with one ‘A’ level at not less than grade D).
Or
Three subjects at GCE ‘A’ level and two further subjects at GCSE/GCE ‘O’ level at Grade C or above.
Or
Two subjects at GCE ‘A’ level, plus two further subjects at GCE ‘AS’ level and demonstrate competence in Mathematics at least equivalent to GCSE/GCE ‘O’ level at Grade C or above.
Additionally:
Provide proof of competence in English which is acceptable to the University.
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) when an overall score of at least 6 is achieved with a minimum of 5.5 in each sub-test.
