Hard-working Patrick Mutombo (19), received three distinctions on the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Media as part of the Career Academy programme at Bournville College with the ambition to become the next James Cameron as a film director.
Described by his tutors as a model student, Patrick’s exceptional achievements have given him the confidence to transfer and apply his skills whilst working on individual and team projects including music videos and video biographies. These projects helped him to build upon his work portfolio before he starts a degree in Film, Production and Technology at the Birmingham City University in September 2012.
The skills he learnt throughout his course at Bournville College have enabled Patrick to gain internships through Career Academy at media companies such as the BBC where he assisted the producers with ideas and the production of radio programmes. He also enjoyed the opportunity of a one-day work experience at radio station Capital FM where he had the chance to produce an advertisement, working as a team whilst developing an understanding of client satisfaction and meeting client briefs.
Originally from The Democratic Republic of Congo and English being his third language, he commented that Bournville College accommodated exceptionally well for his needs as a student. The support he received has contributed towards his growing confidence within the media profession.
Patrick would recommend the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Media at Bournville College to anyone who has a passion for the media industry. ‘I enjoyed the diversity of students and cultures at Bournville College and the support from my tutors who enabled me to develop my own perspective and understanding of media,’ reflected Patrick.
