Bournville College have recently started training for an 11th cohort of learners with Care Through The Millennium, showing the vital work provided through its Pre-employment programme.
Bournville College have been working with Care Through The Millennium (CTTM) since 2009, placing over 150 learners with the organisation during this time, with some learners going into management level. CTTM run homes providing specialised healthcare and rehabilitation services for adults with learning disabilities, mental health and neurodisability needs.
Jane Nash, Head of Human Resources at CTTM commented: ‘I previously worked in the recruitment industry and attended a presentation on the Pre-Employment programme. When I moved to my role here it was something that interested me and the owner, Chris Higgins was very interested in being able to recruit local people for our jobs. When I originally started we had 70 staff, we now have 245 employees – which has meant a lot of vacancies and giving employment opportunities to people with the pre-employment training support from Bournville College. Our trainees have ranged from 18-60 year olds from different backgrounds; however, we have found them all to be very enthusiastic.’
Bournville College’s pre-employment training programme has been developed to suit a wide variety of organisations, supporting them in their employee recruitment and training. Over 40 organisations such as CTTM, Tesco and Jaguar Land Rover have already benefited from this training programme that can be tailor made to suit the needs of a particular industry, timescales and budget.
‘Bournville College really got to know and understand the company ethos and tailored the training accordingly to suit our needs. During the pre-employment training individuals were able to set their own career goals and aspirations. I would definitely use Bournville College in the future – I have no doubt in recommending the team, as the work they do is great’, added Jane
The programme also encourages local employee recruitment, reduces unemployment by targeting job seekers and therefore contributes towards raising the skills of Birmingham. ‘One of Bournville College’s first cohorts with CTTM has seen trainees progress into senior roles and team leaders, when most of the learners started with no formal qualifications or relevant experience.’
Rachael Reader first enrolled onto the pre-employment training in 2011 after a long term interest of working in the care sector, but finding it difficult to find a suitable job. After undergoing pre-employment training Rachael secured employment with CTTM as a support worker. Since joining, Rachael has successfully gained promotion, to team leader supporting the management team and taking responsibility for running shifts.
‘I really would recommend the training to everyone, as it gave me an idea of what to expect from the job. I love my job and it is the little things that make it rewarding – we were told in the training it was the small steps that make the difference and this is true. Everyone here at CTTM is approachable and no two days are ever the same!’
