Bournville College recently helped one individual recognise their life-long dream of improving their writing skills and go on to publish their own book.
Sarah Louisa O’Looney, 34 from Northfield has had her own beauty business for over 10 years but one of her long term aspirations was to write a book aimed at male grooming. Having opened up her salon, Romeo & Juliet in Maypole in 2007, over the years Sarah has been able to extend her service range and in 2011 decided it was the time to focus on her male grooming publication.
With Sarah’s business flourishing, she decided to turn her attention to her dream of writing a book on male grooming ‘I decided to enrol onto both the IT and English course with Bournville College as I wanted to look into completing my goal of writing my first book and these were the areas which I needed help in. My new book, ‘Fresh, clean men’ gives advice to men on how to de-stress and recommends product and grooming tips. Beauty therapists may find it a useful read too as it outlines techniques that work for men.’
‘The course has really helped me with my business and has assisted me to move the salon onto the next level. The support I received from Bournville College was excellent; I love the College, the courses and facilities are really good and have given me the refresher and confidence I needed to push on with the book’.
As a single parent with two boys, the training courses gave Sarah the opportunity to update her skills and confidence to pass them on her children. ‘I would absolutely recommend the courses to others – especially those with children as it has given me the confidence as well as the opportunity to help my children. As a single mother, the courses have made me more independent and I have gained knowledge to pass on to my children – I have achieved a lot in short space of time thanks to Bournville College’.
