The 28th March 2012 will see Bournville College hosting the Dulux Apprentice of the Year 2012 competition. The College’s new state-of-the-art campus has been selected over other local education providers of apprenticeships in painting and decorating.

The competition is in its fifth year and is open to apprentices aged between 17 – 24 years, studying on a recognised painting and decorating course. There are seven regional heats which will take place throughout March at colleges in Birmingham (Bournville College), Doncaster, Surrey, Plymouth, Preston, Bridgend and Angus. The winner of each regional heat will go on to take part in the national final at Accrington & Rosendale College.

Mark Morris (picture middle), Lecturer in Painting and Decorating at Bournville College who is organising the competition with colleagues Carrie Green (picture left) and Mike Warner (picture right), commented: ‘We were selected to host a regional heat as Dulux were impressed with our facilities. This will give us a great chance to champion some of our best apprentices and showcase our high teaching standards and facilities.’

Two Bournville apprentices of painting and decorating have been selected to compete in the regional heat at Bournville College. The competition will see Zoë Jones, Level 2 apprentice and Anthony Roberts, Level 3 apprentice, compete amongst other candidates. The overall winner will receive £2,000 worth of prizes, including Dulux decorator training. There will also be runners up prizes of £500 and £250 as well as a prize for individual regional heat winners.
