Intramural Olympics

To get in the mood for London Olympics, Bournville College has organised its own sporting tournament – Intramural Olympics. The event has been open to all students and will see a range of sporting events taking place through the upcoming months.

Starting with a tournament in Touch Rugby, students formed six teams of eight, representing a range of countries, including Great Britain, New Zealand, Togo, Madagascar, Republic of Congo and Phuket. In the end, the team representing New Zealand proved to have what it takes to be the winner. They beat Togo, 6-5, in the final round and walked away with a prize including a rugby ball and certificate.

Jo Insley, Sports Development Co-Ordinator at Bournville College and the driving force behind the project commented: ‘Students really enjoyed themselves and gained a better understanding of how tournaments are run so they can take over the reins of future events.’

The event took place in Bournville College’s sports hall and was supported by the Old Edwardian Rugby Club where a number of students already train in rugby as well as help with scoring and umpiring.

Next Intramural Olympics event is due to take place between 23-25th March and will be dedicated to raising money for Sports Relief. Students interested in taking part should enquire with Jo on 0121 477 1656 or joanne.insley@bournville.ac.uk. Bournville College offers a wide variety of extra curriculum activities.
