Students of Bournville College took part in the first ever Enrichment Fair organised at its new £66 million campus. Twenty service providers gathered together to provide Bournville students with useful information about their organisations.
Bournville College welcomed over 4,600 students this September and the Enrichment Fair enabled them to discover a wide range of services available at their new campus. Departments such as Learning Zone, Urban Fitness, Student Activities Team and Student Ambassador Scheme had all presence at the event. Emma Love, Urban Fitness manager reflected: ‘The event gave us a great opportunity to talk to students about their brand new gym that includes 70 workstations for cardiovascular workout, a sauna, a steam room and an extensive exercise class timetable. Students can access the gym at a discounted price which means that they will be able to improve their fitness without breaking the bank.’
Joyce Byrne from the College’s marketing team was talking to the students about opportunities to get involved with the college beyond their studies. ‘Our student ambassador scheme allows students to develop their inter-personal and customer service skills by helping out at open events and school visits. In addition, student ambassadors are often involved in the College’s photo shoots and media interviews which helps them build their confidence and communication skills. Students are rewarded for their help and contribution in high street vouchers. In addition and more importantly, this type of experience can enhance students’ CVs, university or job applications’ said Joyce.
Other organisations included those based in the local community, such as Macmillan, Frankie & Benny’s, Northfield Shopping Centre and more. The Fair was organised by the College’s Student Activities Team. Matthew Lloyd, Student Activities Co-Ordinator commented: ‘We were pleased to see so many students taking an interest in this event and would like to thank all college departments and external organisations that took part.’
