Maggie-Nelson

A credit controller from Bromsgrove has achieved the highest national result on the Diploma in Credit Management at Bournville College.

Four years ago Maggie Nelson (44) decided to change career and leave her former job of 12 years at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground in order to start a new one as a credit controller at A-Mir & Co Ltd, a major supplier of garden furniture and barbecues within the leisure industry.

Not having worked in credit control previously, Maggie decided to develop and invest in her skills. After a personal recommendation from a former student of the Diploma in Credit Management (Level 3) at Bournville College she decided to try it for herself in January 2010. Maggie has just completed her first module on this programme accredited by the Institute of Credit Management (ICM), and she couldn’t have hoped for a better result.

She always knew that she would try her best on the course but never thought that she would secure the highest national result of 98% on the Credit Trade Export and Consumer exam.  Maggie proudly collected her prize during the ICM Regional Awards Evening on 3rd November at the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce and Industry. She reflected: “I couldn’t have hoped for a better result. Having not worked in credit management for long, I’m very proud of the skills that I acquired on the course.”

Debbie Filgate, Lecturer on the Credit Management course at Bournville College, commented: “I am thrilled with Maggie’s success and the fact that I now have had prize winners in every cohort of students since I started teaching at Bournville four years ago. I find it extremely motivational from teaching perspective. Such success also gives my learners a guarantee of quality as well as something to which they can aspire.”

Maggie added: “Debbie is an outstanding tutor. She has excellent skills and knowledge that engage students in the subject of credit management that is often perceived as somewhat dry.”

Maggie has still three more modules to complete before achieving the full qualification, however she is fully motivated to continue doing her best in order to develop her skills and career.

If you’re looking for a career change or thinking of developing your credit management skills, why not come to the College whose results speak for themselves? The Level 3 qualification in Credit Management at Bournville College is a flagship management course that produces excellent credit controllers and student prize winners year-on-year.
